The Wait for Dinner (Susan / Ciara)

Susan was busy making dinner for the kids as she was every evening and listening to music over the wireless. She generally loved cooking dinner usually the most peaceful time of the day, to her anyway. Most of the kids were off doing there own thing around the house, playing, homework hanging with their dad in the pub. Of course this didn't mean she didn't welcome any company if anyone wanted to chat.

Ciara was usually outside until dinner was called. However in a rare moment she had decided to come in and hang out with her mum. "What are you cooking mum?" she asked as she pulled herself up to sitting on the side.

Susan smiled as she mashed potatoes and a large bowl "Shepherd's Pie, Here what do you think of the potatoes? More butter or more Milk?" She asked as she gave Ciara a spoon of the fluffy hot spud. "I need a second opinion" She said with a laugh.

" Careful it is a little hot" she cautioned.

Ciara took a bite and swallowed. However in the few moments she had taken to do that she had forgotten what the question was. "Your potatoes need more milk" Ciara suddenly decided as though starting a new conversation.

Susan chuckled and did as suggested adding more milk " Thank you my dear, I couldn't decide".

She after whipping the yummy potatoes she started to put the pie together. She looked over at Ciara " You can be my official taste tester from now on hm?" she asked as she worked.

"Oh dear can you help me with setting the table Please?" she added figuring Ciara would be good with being more active. She more then anyone knew how her daughter hated sitting still, sometimes she worried it would affect her work in school.

Ciara was happy enough to set the table. Though she kept getting distracted while she did so. She would spot something or think something and randomly put a knife down in the middle of a place or drop a fork by someone's chair.

Susan watched out of the corner of her eye as Ciara set the table "Careful Dear, someone might get a surprise when they sit and find a fort poking them" She said lightly.

" How was your day Ara? do anything fun?" She asked curiously.

Ciara focused just enough to get the cutlery on the table and then gave up on the job. "I climbed the big tree by the brook and jumped all the way across."

Susan blinked nearly thanking merlin she hadn't been there to watch, goodness the girl was a dare devil. "Do be careful dear, could really hurt yourself doing that." she cautioned with a sigh as she placed the pie in the oven for the last round of cooking.

"Its all water if I fell off" Ciara dismissed carelessly with a grin and a shrug. "You worry too much mum."

Susan breathed since just cause water was there didn't she couldn't hurt herself "Perhaps dear, but that is my job. No Jumping across of trees across the brook eh?" it was a long shot she knew, but had to say something.. Jumping off trees was not a good safe thing in her book.

As the pie cooked Susan set the rest of the table and set out jugs of juice and milk for the kids to pick them selves.

"I can't promise anything" Ciara responded with a smile. She would forget rules without meaning too far too easily, getting distracted.
